[edit]From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *yu (“to take”), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *m-dz(y)u-k (“to belong, trust, depend, accept, take”). Cognate with Old Chinese 屬 (OC *tjoɡ, *djoɡ, “attached to, jointed to”) (STEDT).
