Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian ძელი (jeli), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *ʓ₁el-, from Proto-Kartvelian *ʓ₁el-. Cognate with Mingrelian ჯა (ǰa, tree) and Laz ჯა (ǰa, tree). Compare also Old Armenian ձեղուն (jełun).
