Etymology
[edit]From Dutch kop and also from Portuguese copo. Cognate (via Late Latin cuppa) with カップ (kappu), from English cup.

[edit]コップ (koppu) refers specifically to glass containers (tumblers), as for water, while カップ (kappu) refers to cups with handles (mugs), as for coffee or Western tea.
