English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From a September 2020 post by Tumblr user gomjabbar lampooning hardcore Star Wars fans and Star Wars character names: "every time a new Star War[sic] movie or show is announced all the fans are like 'OMG Glup Shitto is back 😭😭😭'.[1][2][3]

Noun[edit]

Glup Shitto (plural Glup Shittos)

  1. (Star Wars fandom slang) Any minor Star Wars character or one who features primarily in Extended Universe media unknown to casual fans.
    • 2021 May 9, J. D. Connor, “Put Some 'Mank' on It”, in Los Angeles Review of Books:
When it works well, Mank feels like the inheritance and renovation of a range of craft competencies and attentions. And when it does not work well, it is the classical Hollywood nerd’s version of Glup Shitto. “OMG Ben Hecht is back!” Sometimes it does both at once.
    • 2022 June 1, Brian Lloyd, “This week's 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' sees the return of a familiar helmet”, in Entertainment.ie:
'The Book of Boba Fett' is a good example of this joke containing a few grains of truth. Boba Fett was, after all, the original Glup Shitto. He turned up in all of maybe three major scenes in 'The Empire Strikes Back' and 'Return of the Jedi', died by accident, and was written off in the movies.
    • 2022, Brandon Raglow, "Review | Episode three of ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ brings the Jedi master face to face with a certain former Padawan", The Pitt News (University of Pittsburgh), 8 June 2022:
I also questioned what characters might show up in this series, and while we haven’t seen a true Glup Shitto yet, we do get a reference to Quinlan Vos, a Jedi from the “Star Wars” novels who then appeared in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”
