Etymology[edit]
Originally eastern Finnish, Savo-Karelian Savo Finnish (Savonian dialect of Finnish) surname, possibly from an archaic/dialectal nickname korho (“hard of hearing, deaf”) + -nen or dialectal korho (“proud, rich, upright”). First recorded in the Middle Ages.

- A common surname. In 2010, the second most common in Finland (barely behind Virtanen, and ahead of Nieminen).[1]
