From Celtic, either from Proto-Indo-European *tm̥H-ró-, from the zero-grade of Proto-Indo-European *temH- (“dark”); or from Proto-Indo-European *tm̥h₁-ró-, from the zero-grade of Proto-Indo-European *temh₁- (“to cut”).[1] From the same root of Thames and Tamarus.
