Usage

[edit]

This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from the following four of George Chapman's works (and one work formerly incorrectly attributed to Chapman) appearing in an online version of an 1873 republication of the works at Google Books:

Parameters

[edit]

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |title=mandatory: the title of the work quoted from, as follows:
Value Result
Widow's Tears The VViddovves Teares: A Comedie. []
Memorable Maske The Memorable Maske of the Two Honorable Houses or Innes of Court; the Middle Temple, and Lyncolns Inne. []
Caesar and Pompey Caesar and Pompey: a Roman Tragedy, Declaring Their VVarres. []
Tragedy of Alphonsus The Tragedy of Alphonsus Emperour of Germany: []
Revenge for Honour Revenge for Honour. A Tragedie.
  • |act= – the act number of the play quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals.
  • |scene= – the scene number of the play quoted from in lowercase Roman numerals.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) of the work. If using |pages= to quote a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=110–111.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
If this parameter is omitted, the template will not link to the online version of the work.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |4=, |t=, or |translation= – a translation of the passage into contemporary English.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
