From Middle High German ungloube, ungeloube, from Old High German ungiloubo, from Proto-West Germanic *ungalaubō, equivalent to un- +‎ Glaube. Cognate with Dutch ongeloof, Saterland Frisian Uungloowe, Old English unġelēafa (whence English unbelief).
