Welcome to Wiktionary[edit]

Welcome[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 22:30, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

esmolada[edit]

Are you sure this is the masculine form? It seems strange. —CodeCat 23:29, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'm still working on it. Thanks.

I think you may have meant esmolat? esmolado seems like Spanish. —CodeCat 23:44, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
I have a question for you: how good are you at the Catalan language? That's one thing that the Babel Box is for. Don't forget to sign what you post when typing with everyone. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 23:51, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
@Lo Ximiendo: Not that great. I'm editing so I can use Wiktionary as a reference point. @CodeCat: As for the word esmolat, yes that is what esmolada came from, thank you very much. --Salforn466

Accelerated creation of inflections[edit]

I've noticed that you're creating the entries for feminine and plural forms manually. But there is also a way to create them automatically. I'm not sure if it's enabled by default. If it's enabled, then when you go to the masculine singular entry, the links to the feminine and plural forms should appear bright green if those pages do not exist yet. If you click on the green links, then you will be asked to create the entry, but all the code will already be filled in. You only need to save the page. It's very convenient.

If this feature is not working for you yet, then the links will appear as the normal red, instead of green. You can enable it like this:

  1. Go to your preference, using the link at the top right corner.
  2. Go to the "gadgets" tab.
  3. Under the section "Editing gadgets", turn on the checkbox for "Add accelerated creation links for common inflections of some words."

Now, the links should be green when you visit pages in the future. —CodeCat 23:44, 12 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'll give it a go - Salforn466
