From the inflected Algonquin root words wab "light, east" and aki "land", meaning people of the first light or land of the dawn

- (anthropology) A confederation of Native American nations/First Nations and their traditional territories that stretches from Newfoundland in the north, to mid-Maine in the south, and parts of Quebec in the west.
