Etymology[edit]
From an- (“not”) + Ancient Greek ἁφή (haphḗ, “sense of touch”) + -ia. Or perhaps directly from Ancient Greek ἀναφής (anaphḗs, “impalpable”). For the middle element, compare haptic.
