From Late Latin apologia, from Ancient Greek ἀπολογία (apologia, “a speech in defense”), from ἀπολογοῦμαι (apologoumai, “I speak in one's defense”), from ἀπόλογος (apologos, “an account, story”), from ἀπό (apo, “from, off”) (see apo-) + λόγος (logos, “speech”).
