bump and run (uncountable) (often attributive)

1. (motor racing) A technique for passing another vehicle, mainly used in stock car and touring car racing, in which the trailing car intentionally strikes the rear bumper of the car in front, forcing the driver to slow down or adjust the steering.
2. (American football) A strategy used by defensive backs, in which a defender lined up directly in front of a wide receiver attempts to impede him with arms, hands, or the entire body and disrupt his intended route.
3. (golf) A low-trajectory shot intended to get the ball rolling along the fairway and up onto the green, like a chip shot but played from a greater distance.
