Metathesis. Unclear whether of Latin or Greek origin; compare Ancient Greek κορκόδιλος (korkódilos), κορκότιλος (korkótilos) and κορκόδριλλος (korkódrillos), all attested forms of κροκόδῑλος (krokódīlos).
