Old Irish[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Probably denominal dí- (“from”) + don (“misfortune”), literally “to take away misfortune”. Cognate to Welsh diddanu (“to amuse, comfort”) and Cornish didhana (“amuse, entertain”).[1]
