Back-formation from edzino, less the feminine suffix -ino.

edzo (plural edzoj, accusative singular edzon, accusative plural edzojn)

1. husband

   Estas ankoraŭ tradicie en ĉi tiu kulturo por edzino adopti la familian nomon de ŝia edzo.

   It is still traditional in this culture for a wife to take her husband's last name.

2. (nonstandard) spouse
