Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Ottoman Turkish گوتوری[1] or گوتری (götürü),[2] from گوتورمك (götürmek), from Proto-Turkic *kötür- (“to lift”),[3] from *köt- (“to rise, to raise”),[4] morphologically götür- + -ü (deverbal nominal suffix). Cognates with Azerbaijani götürə, Uyghur كۆتۈرە (kötüre).
