[edit]Inherited from Proto-Slavic *gъrdlo, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *gurˀdla-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷr̥h₃-dʰlom, from *gʷerh₃-. Baltic cognates are Lithuanian gurklỹs (“crop”), gùrklis (“crop”) and Old Prussian gurcle.
