Etymology

From hexa- +‎ -pod, from Ancient Greek ἑξαποδ- (hexapod-), oblique stem of ἑξάπους (hexápous, “six-footed”), from ἑξα- (hexa-, “six”) +‎ πούς (poús, “foot”).
