Borrowed from Classical Persian حکایت (hikāyat), from Arabic حِكَايَة (ḥikāya, “story”).

Borrowed from Malay hikayat (“story; tale”), from Classical Persian حکایت (hikāyat), from Arabic حِكَايَة (ḥikāya, “story”). In Classical Arabic, the ة character is not silent and read as /t/.
