Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably from the Turkish verb kaldırmak 'to raise'. Sometimes connected to Ancient Greek καλός (kalós, beautiful) + δρόμος (drómos, path, road), but this is unlikely; neither the Babiniotis nor the Andriotis dictionaries of Greek include this etymology, and they normally include αντιδάνεια (reverse loans).
