Etymology[edit]

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “GPC doesn't give an etymology. Phonetically, potential PIE root matches include *plew- (to fly, flow), *lewǵ- (to break off, shatter), and *lewk- (bright; to shine; to see). *lewk- seems like the most plausible candidate. Or maybe the word is borrowed from Latin lūna (moon) a la dydd Llun (Monday), itself from *lewk-.”
