From Persian مجاهد (mujáhid), and its source, Arabic مجاهد (mujáhid), active participle of جاهد (jāhada, to wage holy war) (verbal noun: جهاد (jihād, holy war as a religious duty)), from the root ج ه د (j-h-d).
