Inherited from Vulgar Latin root *pūlicāre, from Latin pūlex, pūlicem. Compare Aromanian puric, puricari, Logudorese puligare, Sardinian pulicare. Superficially, and semantically, resembles Vulgar Latin *pilūc(i)cāre and its reflexes.
