Etymology[edit]

The word was borrowed from the word scotoma (blind spot) by psychiatrists in the 1920s.

scotomization (usually uncountable, plural scotomizations)

  1. (psychology) According to some psychoanalytic theories, the mental ability to delete and forget a trauma or overwhelming event.
