Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Middle High German schicken (“to arrange appropriately, outfit oneself”) + -ować, from Old High German *skihhen, from Proto-West Germanic *skikkijan, from Proto-Germanic *skikkijaną. By surface analysis, szyk + -ować. Doublet of szykanować (“to harass, litigate”).
