tallith (plural talliths or tallithot)

  1. An undergarment worn by orthodox Jews. It covers the chest and upper part of the back. It has tassels (called zizith) on its four corners.
  2. A tasseled shawl or scarf worn over the head or thrown around the shoulders while at prayer.
