Vietnamese[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Cognate with Muong Bi wẫn. Compare Proto-Vietic *k-vaɲ (whence Arem kwaɲ, etc.) which lacks the expected glottal stop if it was actually cognates of the Viet-Muong forms.

Unlikely to be derived from ~ (> SV: viên) as proposed by Sinocentric philologists like An Chi.
