yksipersoonainen (not comparable)

  1. (grammar) monopersonal (having only one grammatical person)

Usage notes[edit]

In Finnish most verbs expressing feelings and states of mind, verbs täytyä (must), pitää and tulla in the sense "shall" and the verb olla in the sense "to have" are grammatically monopersonal (always 3rd person singular). The person is expressed by a predicative, which is usually in partitive case with the verbs expressing feelings, with the exception of the verb tuntua (to feel), with which elative is used. Genitive is used with täytyä, pitää and tulla, and adessive with olla.

In 1st person singular the personal pronoun may be omitted: pelottaa = minua pelottaa.
