Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Old Polish źwierciadło, źwierzciadło, źwirciadło, from Proto-Slavic *zьrcadlo. Compare Czech zrcadlo, Old Church Slavonic зрьцало (zrĭcalo), Russian зерца́ло (zercálo), and Serbo-Croatian zrcalo. By surface analysis, zerkać +‎ -dło.
