From Sanskrit भूतपति (bhūtapati, literally chief of demons; chief of beings), from भूत (bhūta, demon; being, creature) + पति (pati, chief; lord; master); equivalent to Thai ภูต (pûut) +‎ บดี (bɔɔ-dii).
