    • 1857, Robert Etheridge, Lectures Delivered at the Bristol Mining School, page 264:
      The seeds are referable to many hundreds of species, some related to the date, areca, acacia, pepper plant, cocoa, anona, cardamom, nipa,‡ cucumber, &c., &c., clearly demonstrating to us that the temperature of that period, and its flora also, was that of an æquatorial region.
