From Proto-Turkic *čeček (flower)[1]. Cognate to Turkish çiçek, Tatar чәчәк (çäçäk), Southern Altai чечек (čeček), Kazakh шешек (şeşek), Uzbek chechak, Uyghur چېچەك (chëchek), Crimean Tatar çiçek, Chuvash чечек (čeč̬ek).
