Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Albanian *anj, close to Sanskrit अनीति ‎(ániti, blow out), Gothic 𐌿𐍃𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌽 ‎(us-anan, blow out) and the like[1]. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *aidn(i)-, from Proto-Indo-European *Hoid- ‎(to swell). Cognate to Armenian aytnowm ‎(aytnowm, to swell), Old Norse økkr ‎(swelling, lump, growth), Latin inguen ‎(groin, the genitals, tumefaction in the pubic region).
