From öt- (intransitivizer) +‎ ökatomjö (ghost, ex-spirit) +‎ -ka (privative verbalizer), thus literally ‘to have one’s ghost taken away’. Compare Kari'na otàkaryka (to suffer, be tortured, get scared), with a similar but slightly different construction.
