From Ottoman Turkish ایشیمق (ışımak), from Old Turkic [script needed] (yaşu-, “to shine”),[1] from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Turkic *jạĺ(č)- (“to blaze, flame”).[2]
Cognate with Chuvash ҫиҫме (śiśme, “to shine”).
