From Ottoman Turkish ايشق ‎(ışık), akin to Old Turkic [script needed] ‎(yaşuk, light, sun), derived from Old Turkic [script needed] ‎(yaşu-, to shine).[1] See ışımak.

Cognate with Azeri işıq ‎(light), Turkmen yşyk ‎(light).
