Turkish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish ايشين ‎(ışın, flash, gleam, lightning glow),[1] akin to Old Uighur [script needed] ‎(yaşın, lightning), derived from Proto-Turkic *jạĺ(č)- ‎(to blaze, flame).[2] See ışımak.

Cognate with Bashkir йәшен ‎(yäšen, lightning), Chuvash ҫиҫӗм ‎(śiśĕm, lightning), Khakas чазын ‎(çazın, lightning), Uzbek yashin ‎(lightning).
