    • 1874, J. J. in The Month and Catholic Review, Volume XXI., page 109:
      We do not purpose to enter into them, but would merely remark that if Catholicity of doctrine be a claim to œcumenicity for the Council that defines it, it remains to be explained how several national and international Councils in every way as important as that of Constantinople, have not been enrolled among the General Councils.
