Maltese
Etymology
From Arabic زِقّ (ziqq, “skin bag for liquids, waterskin”), from Classical Syriac ܙܩܐ (zeqqā, “idem”), which might be a variant of ܣܩܐ (saqqā, “sack, bag”). The last is cognate with Ancient Greek σάκκος (sákkos, “sack, bag, sackcloth”), whence also English sack.
