Etymology[edit]

Identic with Ancient Greek κορυδαλλός (korudallós), a variant of κόρυδος (kórudos, crested lark), further connected to κόρυς (kórus), κόρυμβος (kórumbos) and κορυφή (koruphḗ) as well as the verbal forms κορυγγεῖν (korungeîn), κορύπτω (korúptō, push with the head or horns) and κορύσσομαι (korússomai, to rear up), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *ḱerh₂- (horn, head, top).
