Etymology

From Mediaeval Byzantine Greek ἄμε, singular imperative of verb πηγαίνω. Plural imperative formed in harmony with proparoxytone imperatives ‑ετε (e.g. λέγετε). The alternative form αμέτε in harmony with paroxytone imperatives ‑άτε (e.g. ελάτε).[1]. Also see etymologies of άντε, άιντε, άι.
