Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Byzantine Greek ὀρχίδιον (orkhídion), from Ancient Greek ὄρχις (órkhis, “testicle”). The change of the initial vowel from ο to α is due to the liaison from the plural: τὰ ὀρχίδια → (elision) τὰ ’ρχίδια → (rebracketing) τ’ ἀρχίδια.
