[edit]Etymology
[edit]Previously, an iterative verb **ϝαιϝωρέω (**waiwōréō) was reconstructed, from which this word was a derivation. This type is not accepted anymore. Taillardat assumes a derivation from the root of ᾰ̓είρω (ăeírō, “to lift; to raise up”), with a successive reduplication. However, Beekes finds this uncertain and leaves the etymology open.
