Etymology

From Hellenistic Koine Greek ἐν ὄψει (en ópsei): preposition ἐν & singular dative of feminine noun ὄψις (ópsis).
For the preposition, semantic loan from French en vue de.[1]

    literally: We are in front of elections.
          We are 'expecting soon' elections.
  2. (formal) +article in genitive: because of (a cause which will happen in the future)
    Πρέπει να προετοιμασούμε ενόψει των αλλαγών.
    Prépei na proetoimasoúme enópsei ton allagón.
    We must prepare ourselves because of the changes [expected].
