Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *lewg- (to bend, twist). Cognate with Proto-Germanic *luką (lock), Sanskrit रुग्ण (rugṇá, bent, broken), Latin luctor (I wrestle) and Latin luxus (dislocated).
