Ancient Greek
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From μυέω (muéō, “I initiate”), from μῡ́ω (mū́ō, “I shut”). The sense development was probably "to shut" > "(one who) shuts one's eyes" > "one who is or is to be initiated (in the Eleusinian mysteries)".[1]
