Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ὀκτάπους (oktápous) (adjective, also substantivised), from ὀκτα- (okta-, eight-), ὀκτώ (oktṓ), modern spelling οκτώ (októ, eight) and πούς m (poús, foot).
