Substantivisation of the masculine plural of the assumed adjective *στοιχειωμᾰτῐκός (*stoikheiōmatikós), from στοιχεώμᾰτᾰ (stoikheṓmata, the signs of the Zodiac) +‎ -ῐκός (-ikós).
