Etymology

From the surname Ушко́в (Uškóv). The settlement was renamed from Тюрисевя (Tjurisevja) in 1948 after Dmitrij Konstantinovič Uškov (Russian Wikipedia article), who was killed in action on the Eastern Front in World War II and awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union post mortem. It was thought that he died near the settlement.
